Idagunji Temple Details

"Om Veda mata Namaha"

Hello Friends I am Back. Today I will discuss with you about going to Idagunji Ganesha Temple.

First History of the Temple>>
Many of you might not have known that this temple is a very ancient temple and it has many secrets hidden inside it. What are those secrets? What is special about the idol of Ganesha that you see in in this temple than what you see elsewhere? what is the reason for Lord vigneshwara to be present here in the first place? Are you curious to know Hmmm? Well just read on.

Long ago there was a great sage who was doing penance in this forest area. Everyday he used to face many disturbances, problems, hurdles to his meditation. He tried many methods but to no avail. He was worried that his spiritual practice many not succeed if this continues. Once due to the sage's good fortune triloka sanchari Sri Narada Maharishi visited this sage. He listened to the problems faced by this sage and then asked him to worship Sri Mahaganapthi who is vighnavinashaka [Remover of ALL kinds of obstacles] and Provider of Success in all our tasks.

As instructed by Sri Narada Maharishi this sage worshiped Lord Vinayaka. Pleased by the sages devotion Lord Vinayaka blessed this sage and provided him with success in all his undertakings.
The great artist by name Vishwakarma carved out an idol of Ganesha as we see in the temple of idagunji today which was installed by the this sage and from then on till today[ also in the future]
worship of lord vinayaka is going on as per the ancient customs and traditions. This temple is managed by 3 families which takes turns in worshiping Lord Vinayaka. Sankastha Chaturthi pooja Vinayakachaturthi Pooja are conducted on a grand scale here.

Specialty of this idol is that "The idol Has BOTH the TUSKS and Also It has ONLY TWO Arm's"

No where else can you see this type of Ganesha Idol. This hence signifies that idol of Lord Vinayaka was way back even before the Mahabharata episode.[ remember that Mahabharata was written by Ganesha with one of his tusks].

Going to Idagunji>>
Now i will give you the details for going to Idagunj. This information will tell you how to go to idagunji by bus from Byndoor.{even kundapura maybe taken as the starting point}. Now first thing you have to do is take a bus going on honnavara route from kundapura or byndoor. Get down at "Manki Mavinakatte stop if it is a private bus or go to Honnavara bus stand if it is a government bus as they not give stop at mavinakatte[ you may to get down at Murudeshwara stop where the government buses stop if you do not want to go to honnavara an catch a private bus from this point itself.]

Now IF you are in Mavinakatte stop there catch a private bus[ mostly van] to the temple. The charge will be Rs.6 to 7/- and it will half-an-hour journey. IF you are at Honnavara government bus stand then do not worry there is government bus directly to the temple. But the journey time will be little more maybe an hour or so. This government bus goes to idagunji village and then comes back. Enjoy the visit to the temple. You will be lost in pure devotion as soon as you enter the temple. The Ganesha is THE ONE AND ONLY attraction so you will have no other distractions in this place. Enjoy the temple and also surrounding beauty. You will also get to buy some medicines from stalls here for muscular pain and various bodily diseases.

After you are done with everything come back to the bus stop. Be sure to be at the bus stop a 5:25 PM at the latest as this is the last bus you will get FROM this place to go elsewhere. The government bus i mentioned about comes around 5:30-5:35 PM. Get into that bus and this bus will take you back to Honnavara and also sometimes you can travel by the same bus to Kumta also. Once you are in Kumta you as well decide to go to GOKARNA "IF AND ONLY IF" you are willing to halt in gokarna.

Because the the government that leaves idagunji at 5:35PM will reach Honnavara at around 6:10PM. And from there it will reach Kumta at around 6:45PM. By the time you reach gokarna it will be around 8:10PM. and the last bus IS the SAME bus in which you have just arrived in to Gokarna. And also after 8PM you will not be allowed to TOUCH the Ganesha OR the Atmalinga and hence plan your visit to gokarna only if you are willing to halt at gokarna for the night.

This experience happened to me and I had to stay at gokarna and hence i booked a room in "Sri Devi Krupa". The owner was kind to me as I explained my problem and hence charged me Only Rs.100/- for one night stay but I had to be contended with the common bathroom which is actually used buy drivers of the tourist vehicles. and hence unclean.

So now you how about my experience of visiting the Idagunji temple.

Friend's I have today explained to you about going to one of the Sacred Places in Karnataka.
Keep reading for more such posts.
These details are i feel is more in-depth in nature for proper guidance to visit these places and also to be sure that you do not get stranded on your journey.
Till Next time- BYE
